Sutton Wins Science Educator of the Year Award
Congratulations to Jenn Sutton, who recently received the Elementary Science Educator of the Year Award from the New Hampshire Science Teachers’ Association (NHSTA). This award is presented annually to an outstanding K-6 science educator who demonstrates strong subject understanding, shows exceptional enthusiasm for teaching, and has an established record of leadership in the field. Among several other qualifications for the award, honorees must integrate NH Science Standards effectively into daily lessons and use innovative, accessible methods to engage students.

“Jenn brings science to life through place-based learning and hands-on inquiry, seamlessly integrating NGSS standards into daily lessons in math and literacy,” Principal Rachel Hill observed in her award nomination letter last year. “By constructing arguments to solve real-world problems, her students explore ideas about ecosystems and life cycles as active investigators.”

Hill also emphasized the close collaboration between the Harris Center for Conservation Education, where Sutton serves on the Board of Trustees, and the ConVal School District: “Jenn’s commitment is explicitly visible through her partnership with the Harris Center, where students engage in raising and releasing painted turtles. Whether tracking bird migration patterns or observing local habitats, Jenn ensures her students see science not as a subject in a book, but as a connection to their own community.”

Tiffany Thompson, President of the New Hampshire Science Teachers’ Association, noted in her award letter that Sutton’s “outreach to the students in the education community of New Hampshire is truly remarkable and epitomizes the spirit of the Elementary Science Educator of the Year Award.”

Sutton was presented with the award during a ceremony at the annual NHSTA conference in Concord on October 8.

Focus Group for Parents of Children with IEPs
The ConVal School District is currently participating in the NH Department of Education's Program Approval and General Supervision (PAGS) review process.

As part of this process, the Parent Information Center coordinates and facilitates a focus group with families about your experiences with:

Home/school communication

The special education process

Your child's Individualized Education Program (IEP)

What's working well—and where the district can improve—when it comes to special education services

Your ideas and recommendations on what is working and ways the district can improve are crucial to shaping the future!

Pre-registration is required. If you are unable to attend, register anyway! We'll send you a survey to complete instead. Please see the related flyer here.

Exploring Forest Ecosystems with the Harris Center
Our 5th grade students went on an exciting forest scavenger hunt with John Benjamin from the Harris Center to discover biotic and abiotic factors in action. Students learned first hand how these living and non-living elements depend on one another to maintain a healthy ecosystem!
